SONG: I WILL HEAR YOUR VOICE
(Click Below)
Whether you turn to the right or to the left,
your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying,
“This is the way; walk in it.”
Isaiah 30:21
Do you remember the story of the Israelites, God’s chosen people crossing the Sinai Desert after their release from captivity in Egypt? God performed many miracles through the hands of Moses to obtain their freedom from Pharaoh, but His miracles didn’t stop there! No sooner were they out of sight when Pharaoh regretted letting them go and started pursuing them. They cried out to God and you know the rest. He put a pillar of fire between them and Pharaoh’s troops. But the people were still in a panic, railing at Moses for bringing them out of Egypt to die in the wilderness at Pharaoh’s hand. Then God spoke to Moses and said, “Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord!” At that point He opened a path through the Red Sea and they walked across on dry ground, after which Pharaoh’s army was drowned in the sea. Hallelujah!
Their entire trek across the wilderness was interspersed with…challenges, murmuring by the people, Moses calling out to God for help and God answering in a supernatural way. Moses was very attuned to the voice of God. His life and the lives of the people he was leading depended on it. More than once, the Bible tells us that Moses talked face to face with God.
Now Moses didn’t physically see God, but His presence surrounded him in the form of a cloud and he verbally conversed with Him. One time that meeting was so intimate and powerful, when Moses returned to the people his face visibly shone with the glory of the Lord…so much so that for a period of time he wore a veil over his face!
“Wow!” you say. “That’s awesome!” But do you realize that God is still speaking to His children today? In Moses day, only the priests or specially chosen people like Moses or Abraham could speak to God directly and hear His voice. But today, because of Jesus sacrifice, we have direct access through Him into the very presence of God. We can speak to Him intimately…and not only so, we can hear His voice. The Lord speaks to us today through His Holy Spirit. It is normally not an audible voice as Moses heard, but a knowing deep inside that transcends our own thought process. “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:26)
But think about this…in order to hear someone’s voice, we have to be listening. Have you ever been speaking to your children and realize that they haven’t heard a word you said?
They weren’t tuned in. When you go to God for direction or help, tune in to His presence and expect to get an answer. And if it doesn’t come right away, wait expectantly until it does. “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.” (Psalm 5:3) You must trust that He WILL hear and WILL show you the way.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek His will in all you do,
and He will show you which path to take.
